Makini Takes Top Positions in National Youth Chess Championships

National Youth Chess Championships: Results

“Chess is the gymnasium of the mind” 


Our chess champions had the opportunity to participate in the National Youth Chess Championships at the Khadija Secondary School in Mombasa from 1 to 6 April 2022. The participants were made up of the teams that were successful in the National Qualifiers that took place on Saturday, 12 February 2022 at Sunshine School. Makini was represented by 27 learners across the Ngong Road and State House campuses.  

We had learners in the different categories: 

Under 8 boys represented by Kyle Koinnet from Makini Junior Academy- State House who emerged with 5 points out of 8 points. 


Under 10 boys represented by 4 players from Makini. Our best player was from Makini Cambridge, Jamie Kariuki who emerged position 7 out of a total of 150 players with a total of 6.5 points out of 8, having lost only one game. The rest of the players under the category had an average of 4 points and above. 


Under 10 girls represented by 4 players. Our best player was Natasha Mulu from Makini Middle School with a total of 6 points out of 8 points emerging position 17 out of a total of 136 players overall. The rest of the group got 5 points and above.

 

Under 12 boys represented by 2 players with Maxwell Baraka emerging the best with a total of 5 out of 8 points. 


Under 14 boys represented by 4 players with Keith Gichoya emerging the best with a total of 6 out of 8 points, position 7 out of 150 players. The rest of the group had 4.5 points and above. 


Under 14 girls represented by 5 players with Elaine Moturi emerging the best with a total of 6 points out of 8 points having lost only one game and drew 2 games. Taking position 13 out of 95 players. The rest of the group got an average of 4 points. 


Under 16 boys represented by only one player Jason Jones from Makini Cambridge who got 4 points out of 8 points. 


Under 16 girls we were represented by one player Tatyana also from Makini Cambridge who got 4 out of 8 points.
