Makini Junior School
Mr. Joshua Ngira
Principal Makini School Kisumu
Makini Primary School Kisumu City Campus located along Nyerere Rd first opened its doors in 2019. The school follows the CBC Kenya national curriculum admitting learners from Grade 1-Grade 6. The curriculum delivery is designed to be learner’s-centered, which means that learners are expected to apply what they learn beyond knowing. For example, it is not enough that learners know the process of growing a plant; instead, they could be tasked with sprouting a plant from a bean, which allows them the opportunity to apply the acquired knowledge to real-life scenarios. Teachers act as facilitators, guiding learners through their learning journeys. The curriculum emphasizes inquiry-based learning, which encourages learners to ask questions, investigate, and explore topics in depth. This approach helps learners develop critical thinking, problem-solving, and research skills.

Pastoral Care
We believe in nurturing the whole child by embracing our fundamental principles of putting learners' happiness first by creating a genuinely happy learning environment. Our pastoral care program ensures that learners' emotional, social, and moral development is as important as their academic progress. Our experienced counselors and support staff are always available to provide guidance and support, helping learners navigate challenges and celebrate successes. We expect that each of our learner uphold the following principles.
- Honesty- Being truthful and trustworthy.
- Respect- Feeling confident in our own worth and abilities and valuing our good character, treating others with courtesy, consideration and understanding.
- Responsibility -Accepting that each of us is answerable for our actions and being dependable.
- Compassion- Recognizing the misfortunes of others and responding with empathy and purpose.
- Fairness -Treating others justly and impartially, according to their individual needs and the wider circumstances.
- Moral Courage- Facing ethical challenges firmly and confidently, regardless of personal cost.
Extracurricular Activities
Our extra-curricular activities are designed to foster leadership and teamwork. We recognize that each learner is an individual with unique set of skills and talents which needs to be nurtured and stimulated by participation in various clubs’ activities.
Some of our extramural programs are chess, coding and swimming which are compulsory. Our learners excel in extracurricular activities such as Chess, World Scholar, Drama, Music Swimming and Football. In 2024 we are introducing more beyond the classroom initiatives like the Presidential Awards and St. Johns Club.
Community Engagement
We believe that a strong connection between school and community enhances the educational experience. Our community engagement initiatives encourage learners, parents, and local organizations to work together for the common good. Regular events, and partnerships help strengthen these bonds and create a supportive network for our learners.
