Makini Junior School Runda
Where potential grows into possibility
Potential meets purpose at Makini Junior School Runda. As one of the leading private schools in Runda Nairobi, Makini brings 47 years of excellence to Runda. Our school programme, designed for learners in Grades 7 to 9 (aged 14 to 16), focuses on this pivotal stage of development. In this transformative chapter of their educational journey, we aim to help them deepen their knowledge, grow in confidence and prepare for the exciting challenges that lie ahead. Through a rigorous approach where each subject is taught with a global outlook, connecting local realities to international perspectives, dedicated teaching and a supportive environment, we equip learners with the academic excellence, independence and creativity they need to succeed. Just as importantly, we help develop the critical thinking skills that will help them shape their future with confidence and purpose.
At Makini Junior School Runda, we walk with every learner every step of the way, shaping character, challenging minds and nurturing dreams. Every learner is guided to discover their strengths and shape their future with intention. Through personalised attention and a collaborative approach, we create an environment where ideas are explored, questions are encouraged and individuality is celebrated. No matter where their educational journey takes them, our learners leave ready to make their mark on the world.

Assessment is a key part of our learning journey. Learners are evaluated through a blend of summative and formative assessments, including the Kenya Junior Secondary Education Assessment (KJSEA) and School-Based Assessments (SBA). This ensures progress is tracked holistically, from mid and end-term exams to real-world projects and authentic tasks.
Digital literacy is woven into our teaching, with learners gaining safe and responsible use of technology through research, collaboration and e-learning platforms like ADvLEARN and MAP Testing.
Pastoral Care
We understand that academic success is only one part of a learner’s development. That’s why we place equal importance on their emotional well-being, social growth and sense of belonging. Through dedicated mentoring, one-on-one support and a nurturing school culture, we help our learners navigate the complexities of adolescence with confidence and resilience.
Our pastoral care approach is warm, respectful and student-centred. It builds strong, trusting relationships between learners, teachers and families, ensuring that every child feels seen, supported and valued. By creating a safe and inclusive environment for all, we empower our learners to flourish in the classroom and beyond our school grounds.
Extra-Curricular Activities
Our dynamic co-curricular programme gives learners the chance to explore their passions, discover new talents and develop essential life skills that support their academic journey.
Creative Arts
Through drama, music, visual arts and performances, learners are encouraged to let their imaginations run free, refine their skills and collaborate with others. Whether they’re performing in a school production, joining the choir or showcasing their artwork, creative activities fuel confidence and self-expression.
Sports and Physical Activities
Physical activity is an important aspect of a well-rounded education. Our sports programme builds teamwork, discipline and perseverance while promoting fitness and healthy lifestyles. Learners are given the opportunity to take part in a wide range of sporting activities, inter-school competitions and matches, where they learn the value of fair play, leadership and resilience.
Clubs and Societies
Our wide range of clubs and societies allows learners to follow their interests, explore new hobbies and gain skills that go beyond the curriculum. From debate and journalism to science, robotics and community service clubs, there’s something to inspire every learner.
Community Engagement
At Makini Junior School Runda, we believe that education thrives when it’s rooted in strong partnerships and meaningful connections. Our community engagement initiatives connect learners, parents and the wider community to support holistic growth, build empathy and celebrate diversity.
Parental Involvement
Parents are vital partners in their child’s educational journey. Through regular communication, workshops, parent-teacher meetings and exciting school events, families stay actively engaged and informed about their child’s progress. These collaborative relationships ensure that each learner receives consistent support at home and at school. This approach helps them flourish academically and personally.
Community Service
Developing a sense of social responsibility is an essential part of our approach to education. Learners are encouraged to participate in outreach projects, charity drives and volunteer activities that make a real difference in the lives of others. These experiences help nurture compassion, leadership and a deeper understanding of their role as active, caring members of society. Our service-learning projects include activities like tree-nurturing at Ngong Forest, which builds environmental awareness and a spirit of stewardship.
Cultural Events
Our diverse school community is enriched by the many cultures and traditions represented within it. Through cultural days, performances, celebrations and themed events, our learners develop an appreciation for different perspectives, celebrate diversity and embrace global citizenship. These are invaluable skills that will serve them well in an interconnected world.
