Turning ambition into achievement

Makini Senior School Runda brings 47 years of Makini School excellence to the final stages of your child’s educational journey. At this pivotal phase, Grade 10 to 12 learners face academic challenges, personal growth opportunities and preparation for life beyond the school walls. Our programme equips learners with the knowledge, skills and confidence they need to excel in further education and future careers.

Through Competency-Based Education, we offer a globally respected qualification pathway that opens doors to leading universities locally and around the world. Supported by expert teachers, individualised guidance and a dynamic learning environment, our learners don’t just prepare for exams, they develop the critical thinking, independence and leadership skills that’ll set them apart.

At this stage, every learner is encouraged to take ownership of their ambitions, refine their talents and shape their future with intention. With small class sizes, mentorship and collaborative learning, we create an environment where ideas flourish, curiosity deepens and potential is fully realised.

Teaching & Learning

A world-class curriculum for a world of opportunity

At the heart of Makini Senior School Runda is the Kenyan Competency-Based Curriculum. In Makini Senior School Runda, we strive to create a learning environment that inspires innovation, nurtures individual potential and equips learners with the skills and knowledge they need to thrive in an ever-changing global landscape with a commitment to significant Academic Progress. By promoting skills of higher order thinking and problem-solving, Competency-Based Education encourages learners to apply knowledge and understanding to problems and situations not previously experienced. At this level, learners will dive deep into their Senior School pathway to refine the knowledge and skills required for further progress into tertiary institutions.

Our teaching approach is designed to build subject mastery, analytical thinking and research skills. Learners are challenged and engaged in lessons where they question, explore and connect ideas. This prepares them for final examinations as well as the demands of higher education and real-world problem-solving.

Our passionate and highly qualified teachers are mentors as well as educators. They are equipped with the skills required to guide learners through advanced subject content, provide personalised support and offer the critical feedback needed to achieve excellence. Regular assessments, independent projects and collaborative discussions help learners develop self-discipline, confidence and a strong academic foundation.

Pastoral Care

The senior years can be exciting and challenging. It’s a time of new responsibilities, deeper self-discovery and making important decisions about the future. Our pastoral care programme ensures that every learner is supported academically, socially and emotionally during this critical period.

Through mentorship, counselling and one-on-one guidance, we help learners navigate challenges with confidence and resilience. Strong partnerships between teachers, parents and learners build a support network where every individual is known, valued and encouraged. Our aim is to help them leave our school as accomplished learners as well as confident and compassionate young adults that are ready to thrive in the next chapter of their lives.

Extra-Curricular Activities

Our extensive extra-curricular programme is just as important as what’s learned in the classroom. It gives learners the opportunity to explore interests, refine talents and develop essential life skills that complement their academic growth.

  • Creative Arts

Learners express themselves through music, drama, fine arts and performance. Participation in creative arts builds confidence, collaboration and creativity.

  • Sports and Physical Activities

A strong sports programme promotes fitness, teamwork, sportsmanship and leadership. Learners have the opportunity to participate in athletics, team sports, inter-school competitions, matches and recreational activities that foster discipline and perseverance.

  • Clubs and Societies

From debate, robotics and entrepreneurship to journalism and science, our clubs provide spaces for learners to explore passions, gain new skills and develop leadership potential.

Community Engagement

At Makini, education extends into the wider world. We believe that nurturing socially responsible, culturally aware individuals is just as important as academic success.

  • Parental Involvement

Families are active partners in our learners’ journeys. Regular communication, workshops, conferences and events ensure parents remain informed and involved. This creates a consistent support system for our learners, both at school and at home.

  • Community Service

Learners participate in service projects, outreach initiatives and volunteer programmes that foster empathy, leadership and a sense of responsibility towards others. These experiences shape them into engaged global citizens ready to contribute meaningfully to society.

  • Cultural Events

Through cultural days, performances, celebrations and themed events, learners are given the chance to deepen their appreciation for diversity and global perspectives. They develop intercultural understanding, which is a vital skill in an increasingly interconnected world.
