One of the most significant benefits of technology in education is its ability to offer students a more personalized learning experience.
Teachers can tailor their instructions to meet the diverse needs and learning styles of individual students. Our teaching and learning approach is designed to cultivate critical thinking, creativity, and a passion for lifelong learning. Our teachers are well equipped with the necessary skills to deliver the Junior School Competency Based Curriculum and majority of our teachers have participated in the development of the instructional materials for the CBC curriculum.
Teaching & Learning
Our Approach to Curriculum Delivery
At Makini Schools, we strive to create a learning environment that inspires innovation, nurtures individual potential, and equips learners with the 21st century skills and knowledge they need to thrive in an ever-changing global landscape with a commitment to significant Academic Progress. Makini school has seamlessly integrated the Competency-Based Curriculum principles into its teaching methodologies. By promoting skills of higher order thinking and problem-solving, it encourages learners to apply competences, knowledge and understanding to problems and situations not previously experienced.
In Grade 7, 8, and 9, learners will deepen their understanding of the broad curriculum and choose the pathways in preparation for the Senior School. Our curriculum delivery is learner centered where teachers facilitate learning through the 5E model. The teachers engage the learners in practical activities where learners do a lot of exploration, research and projects. In Makini Junior school, we have aligned to the rationalized curriculum as was directed by KICD. In Junior school, we teach 9 learning areas which are all compulsory as per the rationalized curriculum. Pastoral Care & Learner’s Well-Being
At Makini Junior School, strive to ensure that the physical and emotional welfare of every learner is taken care of. We achieve this through our robust and vibrant guidance and counseling unit. We have put structures in place to have an efficient career guidance unit to ensure that the learners are effectively guided in choosing their pathways in readiness for Senior School. This will be guided by the learners’ interests, abilities, and academic potential. We are cognizant of the dangers posed by the internet, as a result we partner with recognized entities such as “Watoto Watch Network” to create awareness in our learners about internet safety and cyber bullying. To supplement the efforts of teachers and the counselling unit, we also encourage peer engagement among the learners because we believe children learn some vital skills, competences, and values in a peer space.
Extracurricular Activities
We make every effort to identify and nurture every learner’s ability and talent. This is done through the clubs and societies. In addition, we give learners an opportunity to show case their talents and abilities during talent, exhibition and entrepreneurship days, besides they participate in competitions such as: drama, music, games and congresses. We also organize Career days where we invite professionals to create awareness in the career opportunities. These talks have a significant bearing when choosing pathways to Senior School.
To appreciate the academic learning, we have very vibrant programs that enrich and support learning. These programs give learners the opportunity to apply what they leant in real life situations. We offer these programs through the following non formal activities.
